Sweety, a bonnet macaque, has been kept as a captive pet since a baby, when she lost her arm in an accident. Although she has always been well looked after, first by her original rescuer, and then by kind animal people, she had never had the opportunity to meet and associate with any other monkeys, or had a monkey friend, this interaction being very important in any primates life.
Coming to the primate trust, we and those looking after her, hoped we could then enable her to lead a fuller life, and with her own species at last.
Matilda, a resident here, had lost her companion recently, and resisted all attempts to find her a new friend, from our residents, and our hope that they might make friends was quickly fulfilled, as they now live together very happily, and are in fact inseparable.
